A promotion is the quiet sibling of the job change. It gets less attention from sellers because there's no dramatic company switch, but the underlying event is the same: a person just gained authority they didn't have last month.
A promoted buyer has everything a new joiner has, minus the onboarding fog. They already know the systems, the politics, the broken processes, and exactly which tool they wished they could buy when they lacked the authority. Day one of the new title, that wish list activates. There's no 90-day discovery period because the discovery happened over the past three years.
The sharpest version: your own user getting promoted. Someone who used your product as a manager and just became the director is a warm expansion deal with an internal champion already installed. Most CRMs never surface this, which is why deals like it go to whoever happens to notice the post on social.
Reach out in week one or two. Unlike new joiners, promoted people don't need a settling-in buffer; they're at the same desk with more power and a point to prove.

When ops leaders step up a level, the reporting that satisfied their old manager suddenly has to hold up in the exec meeting, and that transition is rough with the current tooling. You mentioned the manual Friday exports back in March. Now that it's your call, want to see what killing them looks like?"
Referencing what they told you before the promotion is the whole trick. It shows the relationship predates the title, and it reminds them the fix is finally theirs to approve.
